How we work
Most outside help hands the client a new system to manage on top of everything else they are already managing. Occurrens works the other way around. We help leaders lock in the management systems for AI, for knowledge, for projects, for ongoing work, so that they and the people around them can stop managing systems and get back to the actual work.

I have spent more than twenty years working at the intersection of research, industry, and government. The work has included:
- Advisory for businesses, startups, scale-ups, not-for-profits, social enterprises, and governments.
- Building products, infrastructure, and the foundations of AI systems.
- Application and adoption of AI, helping teams and organisations put it to work.
- Economic analysis, including forecasting and financial modelling at macro and micro scale.
- Policy analysis and development across public and private sectors.
Across the work, one practice has been constant: designing and running the systems that get from intention to outcome, with humans kept at the centre.
The practice
Occurrens is the name of the work. The practice is organised around three offerings (teaching and coaching; diagnosis, planning and advisory; an AI augmentation system that is currently being built inside the practice itself) but the offerings are aspects of one way of working, not a menu of separate products. The work begins with a person or a team who has decided that something needs to happen. It ends with the something having happened. In between, the work is to diagnose what is in the way, plan what bridges the gap, coach the humans who will do it, and build the systems (human and technical) that take the pressure off the team.
Foundations before tools
With AI, we begin with foundations before tools. What AI systems actually are, what they can and cannot do well, where the failure modes are, and where human judgment is decisive. Tool fluency follows from that, not the other way around. A client who understands what AI is good at, what it is not good at, and what humans should focus on will be more competent at using AI than a client who has memorised twenty prompt patterns.
Working with an AI agent means writing detailed specifications before asking for execution. The agent itself can help draft those. It means staying in charge of the things humans do better: judgment, intention, aesthetics, knowing whether the question is even the right one. And it means using the agent for the things it does fast and well.
